Sustainability

Our vision: our seasonal flowers are cultivated sustainably with the lowest possible carbon footprint in order to significantly contribute to the reduction of carbon emissions in the flower industry in Norfolk. We educate, inspire and foster a closer connection to the natural world through our work.

In our fast-paced lives we have become accustomed to buying whatever we want whenever we want it. The development of the global floristry industry means that we can buy a bunch of flowers on any given day of the year. 86% of cut flowers sold in the UK via florist shops, supermarkets, subscription services and wholesalers are grown on an industrial scale all across the world and imported into the UK.

At Forever Green Flower Company we do things a little differently. We do not sell flowers grown in other countries, we grow our seasonal, field-grown flowers right here on our farm in North Norfolk. Our blooms do much so more than just decorate a room or event; they provide a connection for our customers to the seasons and to the beauty of natural world.

Our growing practices are centred on sustainable production; we grow our flowers using methods that work to improve our natural environment and not to damage it. We steward our flower field in a way to increase biodiversity with a wide range of seasonal crops. With no limits set on the use of chemicals in conventional flower production, at Forever Green we do not use synthetic chemical fertiliser or pesticide sprays on our blooms. Our flowers are wrapped for sale in paper that can be composted or recycled and we do not use single-use plastic in the form of plastic wrap packaging or floral foam.

We are investing in the fertility and health of our soil which is our most precious resource and the foundation of all of the biodiversity and work on the farm. Soil is the largest terrestrial store of carbon, and the 10 billion tonnes of carbon stored in UK soils equates to approximately 80 years of the UK’s annual greenhouse gas emissions. Carbon sequestration in our soils has to part of the solution to reducing carbon in our atmosphere and currently agriculture accounts for more than 10% of global greenhouse gas emissions.

We cultivate our flowers using a system called ‘no-dig’; This preserves the structure of our soil which helps with moisture retention and drainage, increases the soil biodiversity, and reduces carbon emissions from our soil as we don’t dig or plough every year. This is an essential component of our production which means that our seasonal, Norfolk-grown flowers have the lowest possible carbon footprint for our customers. The seasonal blooms we grow have about 5% of the carbon footprint of industrially-grown, imported flowers.

When you buy flowers from us, you can be sure that you are investing in sustainably-grown flowers, grown with care for our environment and our local community. Our flowers are grown in a way that won’t cost the earth.
